Odors from Ontario County Landfill to be evaluated by supervisors

The ongoing issue of odors from the Ontario County Landfill in the town of Seneca may be addressed by a consulting firm.

The Planning & Environmental Quality Committee of the Board of Supervisors will consider recommending approval of a contract with Stearns, Conrad & Schmidt Engineers of Suffern for an assessment of odor management at the landfill when it meets Monday afternoon.

The contract calls for the county to pay SCS $22,500 for its work.

In other action, there will be reports on implementation of the county’s Local Solid Waste Management Plan, the pumpkin collection done by Impact Earth and a motion to adopt the 2018 Ontario County Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The county contracted with Impact Earth of Rochester to collect pumpkins at locations in Victor, Canandaigua and Geneva. There were 195 participants, 43 from Geneva, 72 in Canandaigua and 80 in Victor.

The company collected 6,500 pounds of pumpkins and took them to Organix Green Industries in Ontario County for vermicomposting, diverting them from the landfill.
