Investigators with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office took a 54-year-old Pittsford resident into custody on Tuesday on two counts of burglary and one count of grand larceny following investigation into separate incidents at the Walmart Supercenter in Victor earlier in the month.
Sarah E. Byrne, 54, of Pittsford was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of grand larceny after three separate incidents at the store.
On November 6th, Byrne allegedly took items off a shelf inside the store and then returned them for cash using old receipts that matched the items she took.
On the same day, after making the first fraudulent return – she took a purse, which belonged to another person. Investigators say that a store employee approached her with the purse, which had been left – and not lost by her – asking if the purse belonged to her.
She claimed it did – and took the purse despite it not belonging to her.
On November 16th Byrne attempted the same return scheme – selecting items off of the Walmart shelves, and attempting to return them with an old receipt. Store employees denied her, and she left.
After investigation it was determined that Byrne had been banned from Walmart properties. Byrne was arraigned and held at the Ontario County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.
Byrne also had pending warrants from Monroe County Court and Brighton Town Court.
