Bausch and Lomb to expand contact lens manufacturing facilities in Rochester

Bausch and Lomb’s parent company will heavily invest in expanding contact lens manufacturing at sites in Rochester and Waterford, Ireland, over the next three years, Bausch Health Companies announced Tuesday.

Both sites will see an expansion of their production lines to handle the manufacture of daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lenses, called SiHy. The lens is one of Bausch and Lomb’s “Significant Seven” products, which collectively are expected to generate more than $1 billion in revenue annually, at peak, in the next five years, according to a company release.

The expansions are expected to create 200 jobs at the two locations in the next four years (about 100 jobs in the Rochester region.) Currently more than 1,000 people are employed at B+L’s North Goodman Street facility in Rochester, and about 1,350 work at the facility in Waterford.
