The new home for Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Entrepreneurial Studies Program will be dedicated Friday.
A 4:15 p.m. ribbon-cutting is set for the Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship, which is named in honor of HWS Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Bozzuto. The center, at 22 Castle St. in downtown, features new classrooms, discussion spaces, workspaces and meeting spaces for the Entrepreneurial Studies Program and programs by the Centennial Center for Leadership.
The Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship was founded in 2017 through a $3 million gift from Bozzuto; his wife, Barbara Bozzuto; and their family, the Colleges said in a press release.
Renovations started last year on the 7,000-square-foot, three-story site, where the Pike Co. of Rochester served as the general contractor. An elevator was added to make all floors accessible.
Thomas Drennen, professor of economics and chair of the entrepreneurial studies program, will speak Friday, as will HWS senior Albert Smith Jr., coordinator for the student programming team at the Bozzuto Center, and HWS junior Chloe Emler, a member of the center’s student advisory board.
“In the 21st century, success will come to people who know how to reinvent themselves throughout their careers,” said Bozzuto at the time of the 2017 donation that established the center. “What the liberal arts teaches you to do, and what entrepreneurial studies reinforces, is the ability to think critically, to think independently and to be willing to take risks, both intellectually and practically.”
HWS said the Bozzuto Center hosts academic and co-curricular programming related to entrepreneurial studies.
