Cornell University graduate killed in bus crash and several others injured

A Cornell alumna was one of the people killed in a deadly bus crash on Sunday.

The bus was traveling from Ithaca to New York City Sunday, when it crashed on interstate 380. Officials said the bus crashed around 9 p.m. in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police said the private charter bus was traveling south when it went off the road into a wooded area. Multiple passengers were injured and transferred to various hospitals for treatment. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

According to reports from CNN, 12 of the passengers on the bus were former and current Cornell University students.

Recent Cornell graduate Rebecca Blanco was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office. Blanco graduated from the university in 2017.

Cornell University released a statement Monday saying Cornell University Police are in contact with emergency responders currently investigating the cause of the crash.

The University said it will offer support services to members if the Cornell community. Counselors will be on hand at the university’s counseling center and also by phone at 607-255-5155.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
