Auburn elementary school placed on lockout after suicidal threat from parent

An Auburn elementary school was placed on a short lockout Monday afternoon.

The lockout was put in place after the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reported that a parent of a student at Herman Avenue Elementary School was making suicidal threats and officials believed the child could be in danger, Auburn Police Department Sgt. Greg Dann said.

The lockout was initiated until sheriff’s deputies located the parent and took him into custody for an evaluation, Dann said. The Auburn Police Department assisted the school district with the lockout, Dann said.

Auburn Enlarged City School District Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said the situation was “taken care of really quickly” and the lockout was lifted after about 10 to 15 minutes. During a lockout, no one is allowed to enter the school building, the superintendent said.
