Union members continued to express concerns about possible restrictions to attending Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees’ monthly meetings in light of the college’s new meeting time change.
The board approved a resolution last month to alter the meeting time from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. At the new morning time Thursday, Lorelee Lardear, typist and switchboard operator for CCC’s Fulton campus and a member of the Educational Support Professionals union, criticized the decision at the public comment portion of the meeting.
Though she said she considers the college her “home away from home,” she believes the meeting change limits employees’ and community members’ ability to attend. Lardear and many of CCC’s trustees and administration were at the college’s Fulton campus, as the meeting was being simulcasted.
Board chair Linda Van Buskirk said she sympathized, but said the decision was made to ensure every trustee could attend each meeting. She said at the last meeting that the 5 p.m. time made it difficult for trustees Stephanie Hutchinson and Pat Mahunik to attend. She said she hopes difficulties with the time change can be worked out.
