First Auburn DRI meeting to take place next week

The first meeting of Auburn’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative planning committee will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Auburn Public Theater.

Representatives from the city of Auburn, state Department of state and Bergmann Associates, the firm the state hired to assist the city with DRI planning, will speak at the meeting, which is being held to “kickoff Auburn’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative planning process,” according to a press release from the city.

During the meeting, the members of the local planning committee will be introduced to the public and the roles and responsibilities of all the key players will be discussed. The committee will give an overview of the DRI process, including the scope of work and timeline.

The meeting is open to the public. City of Auburn Director of Capital Projects and Grants Christina Selvek said there will be a public to be heard portion of the meeting where citizens can share their thoughts.

Planning committee meetings will take place once a month through March 2019, Selvek said, and three other public meetings will also be held during that time period.

The city was awarded a $10 million grant from the state in July as part of the annual DRI contest. The money will be used to fund a variety of projects intended to improve downtown Auburn, including including $1.5 million for improving the East Hill Family Medical Center, $1.2 million for a public safety facility, $1.1 million for an arts campus on the city’s west end and $300,000 to expand Auburn Public Theater.
