On Thursday, September 13th law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to “protect and serve” to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays at the “Law and Orders” event taking place at various Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations throughout central New York and Southern Tier.
The fundraiser will take place during dinner hours from 5PM-8PM that evening to raising awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as funding to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York. State and local law enforcement officers from various agencies including New York State University Police, New York State Police, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Ithaca Police Department, Johnson City Police Department and US Army will join the staff at Applebee’s to greet & seat customers, bus tables and serve guests. They will then place envelopes on the customers’ tables for them to fill with a special tip which will go directly to the organization.
“I think it’s outstanding that the local law enforcement come in on their own time to do this,” said Stacey Hengsterman, president and CEO of Special Olympics New York. “We couldn’t do what we do without this amazing group of community leaders.”
The restaurants will be bustling and there will be a queue of people waiting for a table. Participating Applebee’s locations include:
