The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on Friday at approximately 11 pm deputies responded to a one car personal injury accident on State Route 96A in Romulus.

Deputies report that Thomas Weiler, 76, of Rochester was driving his Honda CRV northbound on Route 96A near the West Blain Road, when it struck a horse in the road that had gotten loose from a nearby farm.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Deputies say Weiler had multiple complaints of pain and had a noticeable bleed from his head. He was treated at the scene then transported by South Seneca ambulance to the Town of Waterloo where it was met by the helicopter.

Weiler was then flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further evaluation.

The horse, which was owned by Daniel King, 32, of Ovid died as result of the accident.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

State Route 96A was also turned into a single lane for nearly an hour while crews dealt with the accident.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Police, South Seneca Ambulance, Mercy Flight, as well as Ovid, Romulus, Varick, and Border City Fire Departments.
