Former Tompkins County corrections officer convicted for sexual abuse of inmate

A former Tompkins County Jail corrections officer was convicted Thursday for having sexual contact with a female inmate.

According to the Tompkins County District Attorney, Michael Baker, 27, was convicted on sexual abuse charges.

Officials said the incident happened in August and November of 2016.

The DA said Baker was found guilty of subjecting another person to sexual contact when that person is legally incapable of consent.

As a result of the conviction, Baker is required to register as a sex offender.

Baker is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 10.
