Gavras Center in Auburn upgrades classroom technology with hands-on smart boards

One by one, children of all abilities took turns excitedly approaching the classroom’s smart board to touch certain shapes, colors or find matches among objects as prompted by their teachers at the E. John Gavras Center Thursday morning.

And, thanks to a $15,000 donation by KeyBank, all Gavras Center preschool and pre-kindergarten classrooms will be equipped with smart boards this September.

The Gavras Center is currently undergoing a roughly 5,000-square-foot expansion that will include seven newly renovated classrooms, CEO and Executive Director Danielle Wright explained. The donation made by KeyBank on Thursday will fund smart boards for four of the classrooms.

“The donation being given is really going to elevate the learning environment in every classroom,” Principal of Educational Services Kenn Ward said.

It will help create an even playing field, he added, since everything can be interactive in all classrooms.
