Democratic candidate Dana Balter had to fend off a primary challenger, but she showed in the second quarter of 2018 that she can raise the money necessary to compete against Republican U.S. Rep. John Katko in the 24th Congressional District race.
Balter, D-Syracuse, raised $263,200 in the second quarter, according to her latest Federal Election Commission filing. The total represents her combined receipts from the pre-primary report, which covered April 1 through June 6, and the July quarterly filing covering the three-week period from June 7 through June 30.
In the final three weeks of June, Balter raised $153,978, including $140,620 from individuals.
Two prominent New York Democrats donated to Balter’s campaign in late June. U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s Off the Sidelines Political Action Committee contributed $5,000. That’s in addition to the $5,000 the PAC already donated to support Balter’s congressional bid.
