The city is poised to join a legal action to recover costs associated with the opioid crisis, which health officials say continues to kill over 100 Americans each day.
In May, central New York attorneys John Cherundolo and Robert Julian asked Council to consider participating in a legal action to recover costs related to the opioid epidemic. Other communities included in the consortium’s legal action include Onondaga County and the city of Utica in Oneida County.
Before Council on Wednesday evening will be a proposed retainer agreement that, if approved, would be the first step toward identifying damages the city has incurred because of the epidemic.
Once damages are identified, the city and the law firms working on the action would decide whether to pursue litigation.
