Cherry Fest a success at Varick Winery despite rain, clouds (video)

Despite the rainy, dreary weekend in the Finger Lakes – 2018’s Cherry Festival, hosted by Varick Winery & Vineyard went off without a snag.

The event featured local musicians, local food, and a plethora of cherries – available for consumption and picking.

“This is one of the most-unique events in the region,” Shelly Inglor said on Monday. The 21-year-old had started making the Cherry Fest part of her annual summertime adventures with friends her freshman year at Ithaca College. “There’s always so much to do in the Finger Lakes, and the variety has allowed us to learn a lot about the area.”

While the region is primarily known for grapes, a variety of other fruits and vegetables grown well. It results in a lot of unique events throughout the year.

Hundreds turned out, and some furry friends were even available for adopting thanks to Bernard’s Beagle Rescue, Beverly Animal Shelter, and Misfits Animal Rescue & Sanctuary..
