Reed, Katko have big fundraising advantages

Whoever wins the Democratic primary in the 23rd congressional district will have plenty of catching up to do when it comes to fundraising.

With the Democratic primary set for Tuesday, incumbent Republican Tom Reed of Corning raised more money ($250,000) in the period between April 1 and June 6 than the five Democratic challengers combined.

Reed also has more than $1 million in cash on hand.

The numbers come from campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission.

“Our campaign is growing every day, and we are appreciative of the generous support from our neighbors in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and western New York,” said Reed in a statement, where the campaign once again slammed the five Democrats as “Extreme Ithaca liberals.”
