Habitat for Humanity of Seneca County (“HFHSC”) and Women March Seneca Falls are announcing the dedication of Honor House on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 12:00pm. Honor House is located at 312 Fall Street in Seneca Falls and is a transitional home for female veterans.
HFHSC partnered with Women March, Generations Bank and the Seneca County Veterans Service Agency last June to rehabilitate the house on Fall Street in Seneca Falls. The single-family home had been donated to HFHSC earlier in 2015 by its owner, Honor “Annie” Calland. The project was name Honor House to commemorate the contribution.
Lieutenant General Carol Mutter will be presenting the keys to Jackie Pethybridge, the first female veteran to occupy the transitional home. Lieutenant General Mutter is a National Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee and served for over 31 years in the US Marine Corps, and is the first woman Marine three-star general and first woman to command a major deployable tactical command – 3rd Force Service Support Group in Okinawa, Japan.
Ms. Pethybridge will lease Honor House at a below market rate for up to two years. A portion of the lease payment will be set aside in escrow for use by Ms. Pethybridge to either use for purchasing her own home or for securing another leased home. Additional services will be provided as needed by the Seneca County Veterans Service Agency.
“We have a lot of people and organizations to thank for making this transitional home a reality,” said Susan Scheuerman of Women March Seneca Falls. Susan noted that Habitat’s volunteer base answered the call for the project. She further noted that Generations Bank and UPS employees worked on the project as part of their respective company’s community commitment.
“There will likely be a few items to finish at Honor House after the dedication, primarily the floor treatments,” said Menzo Case, President of the Habitat for Humanity Seneca County Board of Directors.
