The Nature Conservancy plans to acquire or restore over $1.2 million worth of land in the Owasco Lake watershed to protect water quality, part of an approximately $1.5 million project that relies heavily on state funding.
The conservancy was awarded over $1.1 million in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council announcement in December, one of the largest grants in the region. Representatives from the nonprofit organization attended Tuesday’s Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council meeting to give local officials an overview of the project, which is still pending a state Department of Environmental Conservation contract.
