An overnight fire at Kings and Queens Court Apartments in Auburn temporarily evacuated residents at the 65 and 63 South Street apartments around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Auburn Fire Department arrived on the scene at 3:29 a.m. after getting a call at 3:27 a.m. Multiple residents called in the fire.
The fire department said the fire was contained to the kitchen of one apartment in Kings Court, 65 South Street, where a resident put food on the stove and went to bed. Auburn Fire entered the apartment building quickly, but faced the difficulty of zero visibility in the building, due to large amounts smoke. After a forced entry into the apartment where the fire originated, the fire was out and under control within three minutes, and the smoke was cleared in about 45 minutes, officials said.
The tenant of the apartment where the fire originated was able to escape out his bedroom window, and was already standing outside in his underwear when the fire department arrived at the scene.
