Officials: Student falsely reported bomb threat against Port Byron School District

A threat made over social media against the Port Byron Central School District on Monday was deemed non-credible.

According to school officials, a student reported to district administrators and New York State Police that a bomb threat was circulating on Facebook. The threat indicated that a bomb threat would be carried out sometime this week at the Port Byron School District.

After hearing the report, administrators notified State Police and an investigation was performed. During the investigation, the student who made the claim admitted the report was false and revealed that there was never a threat circulating on social media.

Port Byron Superintendent Neil O'Brien said the student who falsely reported the claim will face disciplinary action according to the district's Code of Conduct, as well as possible legal consequences.

"Please know that the safety of our students and staff is a primary concern for the district and any threats of violence, even when deemed not credible, are taken very seriously," O’Brien said.
