Rep. John Katko wants federal commission to look at mass shootings, gun laws

U.S. Rep. John Katko said Monday he plans to introduce a bill in Congress establishing a presidential commission to examine the rise of mass shootings in America and recommend changes in federal laws.

Katko, R-Camillus, said members of the bipartisan commission would be appointed by Democratic and Republican leaders of the House and Senate, as well as President Donald Trump.

"They should look at everything," Katko said, adding that stricter gun laws and mental health initiatives are good starting points. "Everything should be on the table and we will see what they come up with."
