U.S. Rep. John Katko has secured his first Republican committee endorsement as he seeks a third term in Congress.
The Wayne County Republican Committee unanimously endorsed Katko, R-Camillus, for re-election at the party’s nomination meeting Thursday.
Assemblyman Bob Oaks, who chairs the Wayne County GOP, said Katko has a “strong legislative record” on the issues that affect the county.
“We appreciate his efforts to keep our country safe, combat the heroin and synthetic drug epidemic, and fight for local farmers and manufacturers, as well as our vast veterans community,” Oaks said. “We look forward to re-electing Congressman Katko this November.”
Katko has won Wayne County in each of his two previous 24th Congressional District campaigns. As a challenger in 2014, he received 69 percent of the vote against incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei. In 2016, he won 68 percent of the vote against Democratic challenger Colleen Deacon.
