Auburn man who seriously injured couple in DWI crash resentenced for violating probation

When Peter Giacona was released from prison in August 2016, he was placed on probation in Cayuga County. But there were conditions he had to adhere to — and one was to abstain from drinking.

In December, with less than a year left on probation, Giacona slipped up, Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said, and now he’s back behind bars.

On Tuesday morning, Giacona appeared before Judge Mark Fandrich in Cayuga County Court, defense attorneys Dennis Sedor and Dominic Giacona by his side, and he listened to the district attorney recount his crimes.

It began in January 2012, Budelmann said, when Giacona was arrested by a drug task force for selling heroin, and in August, he pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
