Normally, this would be an off-year for elections in Seneca County’s four villages.
But the Nov. 28, 2017, death of Ovid Mayor David Terry created a vacancy that will be filled in the March 20 election. The winner will serve the remaining year of Terry’s four-year term and then have to run again in 2019 if they want to remain in office.
Terry served as mayor since 2008. Trustee James Rappleye, deputy mayor, is serving as mayor until the election.
Petitions with at least 25 signatures must be returned to the village clerk’s office by Feb. 13.
The remaining three years of the term of Lodi Village Board trustee Martin David, who died June 10, 2017, also will have to be filled in the March 20 election. David had been a trustee for some 10 years.
The winner will serve the remaining three years of David’s term beginning June 1. Melanie Ahouse was appointed in July to fill the seat until May 31.
