With upset wins in two of Wayne County’s most populous towns and the re-election of another town supervisor, Democrats are looking to make a little noise in 2018, even if their efforts are likely to be quashed by the Republican majority.
At Tuesday’s organizational meeting of the county Board of Supervisors, they did just that by pushing their own nominee to serve as chairman of the board for the coming year: Kenan Baldridge of Rose.
Baldridge received the support of fellow Democrats Susie Jacobs of Walworth — a newcomer to county politics — and Joe Molino of Ontario, who previously served as town supervisor and on the Board of Supervisors. Jacobs, the former town clerk in Walworth, ousted Republican Patti Marini in a bitter race, while Molino beat Republican John Smith by 13 absentee ballot votes after the two were tied on election night.
As expected, Baldridge was defeated along party lines by Sodus Town Supervisor Steve LeRoy, who begins his third year as board chairman.
“It means a lot to me,” said LeRoy. “I’m honored.”
