Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick delivers 2018 State of the City address

At the end of Common Council’s first regular meeting of 2018 Wednesday, Mayor Svante Myrick discussed the city’s accomplishments in 2017 and goals for 2018 in his seventh annual State of the City address.

In his address, Myrick laid out goals for the city in the coming year: to push forward with street and pothole repairs, to implement design guidelines for new construction in the city, to improve city facilities, to craft a long-term parking plan for the city, to improve the waterfront and to “rebrand” the city government.

The city has year-after-year invested more and more money into street repairs, Myrick said, but its increased spending and repairs simply have not been enough. With residents’ pleas for better roads in mind, Myrick said he will task Superintendent of Public Works Michael Thorne, Chief of Staff Dan Cogan and City Attorney Aaron Levine with devising a plan to fund and implement a road repair solution.
