Woman sentenced for attempting to smuggle heroin, Suboxone into Moravia prison

A Queens woman was sentenced to a year in jail for trying to bring a package of narcotics into Cayuga Correctional Facility.

Cassie L. Rodrigues was arrested in September 2016 after state police found 10 bags of heroin and 56 strips of Suboxone — a prescription medication used to treat opiate addiction — in her purse. And in October, Rodrigues pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted promoting prison contraband, a class E felony.

During her plea, Rodrigues said she intended to give the drugs to an inmate she was visiting. However, the 29-year-old later recanted her story, claiming she did not know she possessed narcotics.
