Cayuga Centers teen pleads guilty to assaulting Auburn police officer

A 16-year-old resident of Cayuga Centers has admitted attacking an Auburn police officer.

At around 10:30 p.m. July 31, Jacob Mackey was standing in the middle of Osborne Street when Auburn Police Department Officer Scott Deyo approached and asked the teen to move. But, instead of listening to the officer, Mackey lunged and grabbed Deyo around his neck.

It took four officers to get Mackey under control, Cayuga County Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher Valdina said Thursday in Cayuga County Court, and Deyo fractured his right elbow and sustained lacerations to both of his elbows and knees. At one point, Valdina said, Deyo feared he would lose consciousness.
