Get ready for change.
A powerful cold front is approaching the region, and Tuesday is going to be the day for change. The rainy, windy day will usher in the cold air, which will push temperatures down into the 30s for the remainder of the week.
Next week things will get even colder, as temperatures fall back into the 20s.
FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil says that on Tuesday temperatures should stay in the upper-40s until nightfall. At that point temperatures will begin sliding backward through the 30s.
In the meantime, he says wind gusts in excess of 45 to 55 mph should not be ruled out throughout the day. Anyone who has any unsecured objects laying around outside should consider picking them up, or moving them to a sheltered place.
Montreuil says that places in the southern portions of the Finger Lakes – like Cortland, Watkins Glen or Penn Yan will be the likeliest to see snow showers over the next few days. The remainder of the region should stay relatively snow free – with exception to a couple off-and-on snow showers.
He added that temperatures will push up into the upper-30s on Saturday, but behind a couple reinforcing shots of cold air will pass through the region early next week, which will usher in even colder air.
