The New York State Thruway Authority reports on Twitter that westbound traffic between exits 40 and 41 is congested after a tractor-trailer burst into flames.
According to first responders, a tire on the truck caught fire, which led to the trailer igniting. The tractor-trailer was hauling garbage, according to those at the scene.
Traffic was initially stopped, as the entire westbound set of lanes were closed due to the fire. However, as of 1:45 pm traffic was still stop-and-go, according to the Thruway Authority on Twitter.
Weedsport, Port Byron, Jordan and Sennett fire departments were called to the scene, which was reportedly around mile marker 308.5.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
