The Southern Cayuga Central School District’s temporary school resource Officer will possess a firearm and pepper spray.
The district’s board of education voted Monday to authorize William “Bill” Hasenjager to carry the weapons as part of his job patrolling the district’s facilities.
Superintendent Patrick Jensen said Hasenjager will be substituting for current officer John Nedza, who will soon be undergoing surgery. Jensen said the firearm and pepper spray were authorized due to the school’s distance from law enforcement agencies that would be able to respond to an incident.
“We’re pretty isolated out here in the southern part of the county,” Jensen said.
