The owner of a New York logging company will spend between one and three years in prison after being convicted of stealing more than $83,000 in workers’ compensation benefits — all while incidentally failing to provide those benefits to his employees.
That’s according to the office of the New York State Inspector General, which investigated the owner, David C. Sigl, 56, of Auburn.
Sigl was sentenced Tuesday in Cayuga County Court on charges including second-degree grand larceny, filing a false instrument, insurance fraud and a misdemeanor for failure to secure workers’ compensation for his employees.
He’s also ordered to pay back the full amount he stole in benefits: $83,477.98, the IG’s office officials said in a news release.
