Geneva High School placed on lockdown; bullets found outside classroom

Geneva High School was placed in lockdown this morning after two .22 caliber bullets were found outside of a classroom near the building entrance.

A staff member noticed the ammunition on the floor and immediately notified administrators. A precautionary lockdown was initiated in accordance with district protocol at about 9:55 am. and the Geneva Police Department was called to assist. During the lockdown, a full locker search was conducted, including physical education lockers. Backpacks in all classrooms were also searched and district surveillance footage was reviewed for suspicious behavior.



The search resulted in the confiscation of several lighters, two pocketknives and vaping equipment. No further ammunition or weapons were found. The lockdown was lifted at about 11.45 am and students returned to their normal schedules.

Students and staff were safe at all times, and the building was secure. The district is grateful to Geneva police for their swift response and assistance, staff for their cooperation and professionalism, and students for their exemplary behavior during the lockdown.
