It’ll be a Wonderful (busy) Life in Seneca Falls

Plans are being finalized for the annual It’s A Wonderful Life Festival on Dec. 8 through 10.

The festival emphasizes the belief held by many in this community that the Bedford Falls setting for the classic 1946 Frank Capra movie was Seneca Falls, a place Capra visited in the 1940s.

The similarities between Seneca Falls of the 1940s and Bedford Falls of the movie include the Bridge Street bridge where Italian immigrant Antonio Varacalli lost his life saving a woman from drowning in 1917, the physical appearance of buildings, a strong Italian-American community and references in the movie to nearby Elmira and Rochester.
