Cayuga Community College will be working with different local agencies on the Start-Up New York program.
The college’s affiliation agreement with the Cayuga County Industrial Development Agency and the Auburn Industrial Development Authority was approved at a college board of trustees meeting in Auburn on Wednesday.
The start-up program, created in 2013, allows expanding businesses or businesses new to the state to operate tax-tree for 10 years on or near college campuses in New York, according to the state website. The agreements will allow CCC to expand the amount of companies eligible to be assisted by the college.
“Our goal here is to allow businesses to come to us that are interested and then we’ll work with them on the exploration (of the program),” CCC President Brian Durant said.
If a business were to come to the college, CCC would work with them and the agencies to ensure that company is supported. The college and agencies would also make sure the business has the “ability to investigate what might be the right fit for them,” Durant said.
