On Thursday, State Police arrested 44-year-old Town of Varick resident and Varick Court Clerk, Julie Dougherty, on the felony charge of Grand Larceny in the Second degree. The arrest is the result of a six-month joint investigation by State Police, the Seneca County District Attorney Office and the Unified Court System’s Internal Audit Services Unit.
The charge alleges that Dougherty stole $166,999.00 from Varick Town Court during a seven-year period while Dougherty was employed as the Varick Town Court Clerk.
Dougherty was arraigned in Tyre Town Court and released on her own recognizance. The case was divested to Seneca County Court at the request of her attorney.
State Police report that the investigation is continuing.
