A Seneca County man who did time in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal crash has been arrested again — this time for crashing into a barn and leaving the scene.
John S. Smith, 58, was recently charged by sheriff’s deputies with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to maintain lane, speed not reasonable and prudent, unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.
Lt. Mike Schell, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said the charges stem from a Sept. 27 incident, when deputies responded to West Townline Road in Junius. Schell said a vehicle hit a barn.
Deputies later found the alleged driver, Smith, who had fled the scene. Schell did not know how long after the crash that deputies found Smith but said it could have been an hour or more.
