Saturday’s scrimmage marked a shifting point in the competition for Syracuse football’s backup quarterback spot.
Senior Zack Mahoney went from being the leader in the clubhouse to being part of a “clouded” situation that also included freshman Tommy DeVito.
Mahoney and DeVito both spent time working with the first-team offense during the intrasquad session, Mahoney said after practice on Wednesday. But illness has kept DeVito out of the Orange’s practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.
