Two much-debated solar projects in the Town of Dryden have received unanimous approval for the site plan and special-use permits from the Dryden Town Board.
The approval marks the end of nearly six months of review and numerous public input sessions on the projects by solar company Sun8. The projects will produce 28 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power the approximately 7,500 households in the town.
The special-use permits allow Sun8 to construct three sets of solar arrays while the town makes sure Sun8 complies with permit conditions that minimize the visual impact on neighbors. The visual screening and substantial setback requirements for the projects far exceed the requirements by law, and the town board and Sun8 settled on a plan after listening to community concerns.
