The Cayuga County Health Department issued a boil water order for village of Cato residents Monday afternoon due to repairs on the water distribution system.
The department said repairs have caused a loss of water pressure, which may allow disease-causing organisms to enter the water. The department expects the order to be in effect for a few days, and it will notify residents when they no longer need to boil their water. The village will be taking samples to confirm there is no contamination once the repairs are finished.
