In hopes of freeing up more government aid, local officials are urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo to seek a federal disaster declaration for the flood-afflicted Lake Ontario shoreline.
Monroe County Cheryl Dinolfo sent a letter to Cuomo Friday asking him to seek a disaster declaration from President Donald Trump. Her letter echoes one sent on Thursday by local officials from Greece, Sodus Point and Wayne County.
Cuomo, who worked with the state Legislature to provide $45 million in special shoreline aid from state coffers, has said he does intend to ask federal authorities for a disaster declaration.
But he is unable to do so unless and until spending by local governments on flood responses meets thresholds set by federal law.
