Emerson Park prepares for annual fireworks show, orchestra performance

Emerson Park was bustling with activity Monday afternoon in anticipation of the annual fireworks show and orchestra performance.

The crew from Young Explosive Corporation in Rochester arrived at the park at 9 a.m. Monday to begin setting up for the show. Pyrotechnic leader Kirk Ekross said the company used to put on the park's annual show "many years ago" and took charge again last year.

Ekross said over 1,300 individual rocket shells will be set off during the 40-minute show, with more than 750 of them going off in the finale alone.
