The Ithaca Police Department is continuing an investigation into a dead body, which was discovered inside of an apartment on South Quarry St.
Thursday night, IPD Acting Chief Pete Tyler said of the death investigation that had been active that he was “saddened” to see that a young person lost their life.
He added that foul play did not appear to be a factor, but that the investigation was ongoing.
The deceased individual was identified as 34-year-old David Zamos, an Ithaca resident and recent graduate of Cornell University.
Tyler said, “My heart goes out to his family and loved ones during what I know is a difficult time. I’m relieved to see that the substances and chemicals discovered inside the young man’s apartment posed no public health concern for our community.”
He added, “I hope this young man’s family as well as the east hill community can find comfort and solace at this difficult time.”
Officers arrived on scene on Thursday after receiving the report of an unresponsive subject to find a deceased male victim inside the apartment.
IPD has initiated an investigation into the cause of the death, as well as the circumstances leading up to the discovery of the dead body.
A quantity of unknown substances and chemicals were found inside the apartment, according to IPD. Several local, state, and federal crime scene investigators including New York State CCSERT have been deployed to investigate the apartment.
The victim has not been identified, but is a 34-year-old male, who lived at the address.
