Area school budgets pass easily

Voters approved most area school budgets and spending propositions in voting on Tuesday.

In Geneva, the $52.46 million budget passed by a 530-151 margin. A bus acquisition also passed by a nearly identical vote (530-150).

“We are so grateful to this community for supporting us and believing in our initiatives,” Superintendent Trina Newton said. “Voters in Geneva have shown that they continue to put their faith in this district. For our part, we will continue to put our faith and our hard work into educating the city’s youth and preparing them for college and meaningful careers.”

Board candidates Emily Fisher and Matthew Craig were unopposed in the race for two Board of Education seats.

The Geneva Public Library’s proposed $654,921 budget passed. Two Board of Trustees candidates, John Cromartie and James McCorkle, were unopposed.
