Assembly passes bill that would ban domestic violence convicts from having guns

State legislators are trying to make it harder for someone convicted of domestic violence to legally get a gun. The state assembly passed a bill that would include violence against a family member as a reason to take away rights to own a firearm. It’s something local advocacy group Vera House says is long overdue.

“A firearm that can harm and kill somebody very quickly – it would be more difficult for someone to get those or we take those firearms away from people because clearly they’re not making good decisions about not hurting other people,” says Colleen O’Brien of Vera House.
