Finger Lakes beer, cider & wine makers connect at annual gathering

The craft beverage business is booming and the depth of its reach was apparent last week at the fifth annual Finger Lakes Craft Beverage Conference.

Held at the Holiday Inn and organized by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County and sponsored by Waterloo Container, the event attracted 18 speakers and 17 vendors to its trade show. The conference, held Tuesday, featured both beer and cider tracks. On Wednesday, those interested attended field trips either to Bottomless Brewing in Fayette or Cummins Nursery in Ithaca then RedByrd Orchard and Cidery in Trumansburg.

The trade show illustrated both the interest in craft beverages and the economic reach that interest has. It was also a lesson in the varied components of producing, marketing and selling beer, cider and wine.
