Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann announced that the Court of Appeals unanimously affirmed the conviction and sentence of Ryan Brahney, a convicted murderer.
On October 4th, 2015, Brahney was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He murdered Bridget Bell, who was 29-years-old at the time. Their 3-year-old son was asleep in an upstairs bedroom when the murder took place.

The Cayuga County Court had imposed a maximum sentence of 54 years to life.
On Thursday, the Court of Appeals rejected Brahney’s argument that the court’s sentence was illegal.
Budelmann said “We are gratified that the Courts upheld this violent murderer’s lengthy sentence. This outcome ensures that the sentence will remain in place to protect the victim’s family and society from this monstrous killer.”
He continued, “I commend Chief Assistant DA Chris Valdina for his excellent work in writing the People’s brief and arguing the case before the Court in Albany.”
