Contingent faculty members at Ithaca College announced Wednesday they have filed an unfair labor practice charge against the school and have given the college’s bargaining committee 24 hours to show a “glimmer of hope” in labor negotiations.
The Ithaca College Contingent Faculty Union/Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 200 United held a press conference outside the Peggy Ryan Williams Administration Building following a bargaining session with the college to announce the unfair labor charge filed to the National Labor Relations Board. The charge says the school is discriminating against faculty members on the basis of union affiliation and for bargaining in bad faith.
“We successfully filed a charge against Ithaca College for engaging in unfair labor practices against the adjunct professors,” said Dwight Mitchell Jr. of the Cornell Labor Law Clinic. “We believe that there is substantial evidence to succeed on this claim.”
