The top seeded Mynderse Academy Blue Devils led the #4 seed Early College by 27 points in the 3rd quarter of the first game Wednesday night’s Section V Class B Semifinal doubleheader at Victor High School. Early College would come storming back as the Blue Devils went cold at the free throw line and had the ball with a chance to win the game but Tajmin Holt’s jump shot fell short as time expired and Mynderse escaped with a 59-58 win. The Blue Devils are headed back to the Blue Cross Arena and a sectional championship game for the first time since the captured the Class C1 title in 2013.
Mynderse will face the #2 seed Newark Reds who, in the second half of the doubleheader in Victor, would pull away for #3 Livonia late for a 57-49 win led by 17 points and 11 rebounds from junior big man Taylor Clements. Livonia’s Reid VanScoter had 30 points on 9 three-pointers in the loss.
This sets up an all-Finger Lakes East championship game. Mynderse will face Newark on Monday night at 6:15 pm at the Blue Cross Arena for the Section V Class B title. the two teams split in the regular season, both winning at home.
