Brooklyn architects tapped to design central New York tourism center in downtown Auburn

A Brooklyn-based firm has been identified by city and state officials as the top choice to lead the design of a regional tourism center in downtown Auburn.

The highest rated of seven applicants that submitted design proposals for the Central New York Regional Welcoming Center was nArchitects. The Auburn site is one of several announced as part of a statewide $55 million tourism initiative, with a facility planned to represent each state region.

The city of Auburn and the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation are cooperating on the project’s development.

A committee of four state Parks representatives and three Auburn officials reviewed and graded the agencies that responded to the city’s request for design proposals, which was issued in November. The city’s representatives are City Manager Jeff Dygert, Assistant Civil Engineer Mark Odrzywolski and Jennifer Haines, director of planning and economic development.
